Snow, freezing rain and sleet have paralyzed a large part of Slovenia. It also paralyzed vehicles. “How to get very thick ice off a car?” is now the question.
It’s quite simple, if you can get into the car. Start the engine and turn on the heating and defrosting system. Set it on highest heat and low speed. Once the defroster starts to melt the ice you should be able to at least slide a big chunk of the ice off the car.
This low setting is extremely important. You don’t want to crack the windshield by heating it too quickly. It’s also very important that you turn on the engine when starting the heating system. Otherwise you’ll wait for hours and ice melting will just not happen. ;)
If you need to make doors to open first, than there are options of applying a de-icing solution, using a spray bottle. Home remedies include the following mixtures: 50 percent water and 50 percent ethyl alcohol, or 50 percent water and 50 percent vinegar. Never use hot water or the windshield might crack.
However we were surprised by the suggestion of using mixture salt and water. It is a very well known fact that salt is extreme rust accelerator, so we would recommend this method only to those with CouplerTec installed.
